Poppies

A poem for Remembrance Day 11/11

Poppies mean remembrance

Emblems of our dead

For those who fought for liberty

And suffered wounds and bled

At Flanders — where men fought and died

Back in 1914–18

We pay homage to our fallen boys

At that torrid battle scene

And for all the wars, we wear them

As respect to loved ones lost

While their artificial colour: red,

Depicts real blood spilled — that cost.
